Should this speed run be a record?
YouTuber SethBling has beaten Super Mario World in under 6 minutes by performing a series of precise events. In doing so, he broke the record for a speedrun on a non-emulator. Now here’s the question: Should this be considered a legitimate record?
I am personally a fan of speedruns. I’m quite proud that I can say I’ve beaten Resident Evil 2 in a little under three hours. Speedruns require plenty of focus and very fast reflexes depending on the game you’re playing. When I think of a speedrun I think of beating a game from new game to credits; level by level; boss by boss as fast as you can.
Now I’m not taking anything away from this guy and what he did. I’m quite impressed with his patience and execution. But to call it a record is a bit much and shouldn’t be categorized with people who actually took the time (no pun intended) to do the speedrun the right way. If any, this should be in its own separate category because I’m willing to bet that others have or will attempt to do what this guy did and perhaps beat his so called record time.
